NIGERIAN ARMY MAJOR AND 3 OTHER SOLDIERS KILLED IN ABONNEMA RIVERS STATE

A major of the Nigerian Army [name with-held] and other 3 soldiers have been reported killed in Abonnema, Akuku-Toru LGA Rivers State Nigeria this afternoon [Thursday] by unknown gunmen. The details of the killing remain sketchy at the time of reporting.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of two soldiers in Rivers State.

The killings come barely 48 hours to the National and State Assembly rerun elections scheduled to hold in the state on Saturday.

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt, Capt. Elli Lazarus, confirmed the deaths to the News Agency of Nigeria reports in Port Harcourt.

He said that a Major and one soldier were killed after an exchange of gunfire with suspected sea pirates in Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area

With less than 48 hours to the re run elections in Rivers State, the security of the state has come under test as the Nigerian Army says it has lost two of its men from an ambush by unknown men in Abonemma, Akukutoru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The victims, one officer and one soldier, were among the troops on patrol in Abonemma before a fierce encounter ensued between them and the gunmen.

The Army authorities say they are in pursuit of the criminals and will surely get them.

The Army has also advised all law abiding citizens to go about their lawful activities, while it continues to make necessary sacrifices to ensure sustainable peace, security of lives and property of all.

The Nigeria Police had earlier announced the deployment of 6,000 personnel to Rivers State ahead of the re-run election.

Nigerian Army Major, Three Soldiers Killed In Abonnema Rivers State

A Nigerian army major and three soldiers were shot dead today in Abonnema in Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers state less than 48 hours before crucial supplementary legislative elections are scheduled to take place in the state.

A source told Sahara-Reporters that the soldiers ran into an ambush set up by militants in the volatile state.
The state governor, Nyesom Wike had engaged in rallies across the state, and repeatedly threatened that anyone attempting to rig election against his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates will be killed.
